Rwanda - Day 3

Rwanda - Day 3

After a  morning preparing the final version of our lecture for the following day, we had 2 great meetings, first with the Minister of ICT (the Hon Mr Ignace Gatare ) and  then with the Minister of Health (the Hon Dr Richard Sezibera ).  Both showed a lot of enthusiasm for our project involving the training of nurses and midwives in performing ultrasound examination in the rural clinics. Our data of the previous day, using the Sonosite portable machine was certainly convincing regarding improving the attendance of pregnant women to their antenatal appointments. The Health Ministry’s policy is to advise a program of 4 antenatal visits over the course of each pregnancy. Currently the rate of attendance in the rural areas remains very low. The likely increased job satisfaction of nurses and midwives using ultrasound in their practice was also highlighted as a very positive effect of the project.  The Minister of Health was so interested by our project that he wanted us to scale-up by involving all the nursing schools of Rwanda as soon as possible.
